The government decided to transfer all functions related to food to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy
“Since 2021 agriculture showed the highest increase in production – 14.4%,” said Roman Leshchenko, Minister of Agrarian Policy and food of Ukraine. This message was posted on the official page of the minister in the social network Facebook.
According to the results of 2021, production at agricultural enterprises increased by 19.2 %. As a result, last year Agriculture gave the highest percentage of GDP among all sectors of the economy – more than 10 %. Also, the largest percentage of Ukraine’s total exports is accounted for by agri-food products, which is about 41% for the year.
As Leshchenko emphasizes in his message, Ukraine is increasingly confident in claiming the status of one of the largest guarantors of World Food Security.
In order for the agricultural sector to continue to grow actively, on February 9, the government decided to transfer all functions related to food to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and food of Ukraine. We are talking about the formation of state policy in the following areas:
– food safety and quality;
– quarantine and plant protection;
– veterinary medicine;
– organic production;
– handling and labeling of organic products.
According to the minister, this government decision provides primarily for the unification and cooperation of all professional specialists within one ministry, data exchange and coordination.
